At the 2025 CMA Awards, Vince Gill received one of the biggest honors in country music — the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. He became only the tenth artist ever to receive this highly respected recognition.
The CMA created this award to honor artists who have made a major impact on country music both in the U.S. and around the world. It celebrates musicians who shine on stage, give back through charity, achieve impressive career milestones, and leave a long-lasting legacy on fans and the industry.
Past recipients include icons such as George Strait, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride, and Willie Nelson himself — placing Gill in truly legendary company.
CMA CEO Sarah Trahern explained why Gill stood out this year, saying he is “a true trailblazer” who honors country music’s roots while continuing to inspire fans worldwide. With 18 CMA Awards, a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame, and years of hosting the CMA Awards, Gill’s influence runs deep.

A Heartfelt Tribute to Vince Gill at the 2025 CMA Awards
The award was presented to Gill during the CMA Awards ceremony on November 19. To honor him, several country stars came together for a touching tribute performance featuring some of his most loved songs.
Brandi Carlile opened the medley with a beautiful version of “When I Call Your Name.” Partway through, she was joined by Gill’s close friend and longtime collaborator, Patty Loveless. When cameras showed Gill in the audience, he appeared emotional as he watched the performance unfold.
Adding to the surprise, George Strait — last year’s recipient of the same award — walked onstage to present the trophy. Afterward, Gill stepped up to the microphone, shared his gratitude, and thanked those who supported him throughout his remarkable career.
It was a truly special moment, and one that perfectly reflected Gill’s lasting impact on country music. He couldn’t be more deserving of the honor.
