A dark cloud has fallen over the Philippine film and television industry after the sad news of the passing of award-winning character actress Sue Prado was confirmed. At the age of 44, the actress passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, shocking not only her family but also her colleagues in the industry and fans.
According to the confirmation of her sister May Shiren through an emotional post on Facebook on Wednesday night, April 15, the actress could no longer cope with the “myocardial infarction” or better known as a heart attack. This sudden event left the showbiz industry in shock because there was no indication that the actress was suffering from any illness. In fact, just last Saturday, April 11, Sue was still active attending the story conference of her new movie “The Flying Red Balloon” in Quezon City, along with Lizel Lopez and McCoy de Leon under the direction of Luis Ignacio.
Born on May 18, 1981, Sue Prado graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). It was on the stage of the Laguna theater that her talent was developed, which later brought her to the peak of success in mainstream and indie films. She is not only an actress who brings characters to life; she is also a brave voice for the welfare of her colleagues. She was one of those who enthusiastically promoted the implementation of the “Eddie Garcia Law” to ensure the safety and proper wages of all actors and staff on every set. In addition, she has also been active in supporting groups like the ACT Teachers Partylist because of her deep belief in the importance of education and the rights of teachers.
In her long career, Sue has left behind unforgettable performances in films such as “Barber’s Tales,” “Oro,” “Area,” “Dagsin,” “Thelma,” and “Ilustrado.” She has also become a familiar face to television viewers through the series “Madrasta,” “Abot-Kamay na Pangarap,” “Prinsesa ng City Jail,” and most recently in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” with Coco Martin. Her talent was also recognized abroad when she was part of the prestigious jury for the 3rd Sharm El-Sheikh Asian Film Festival (SAFF) in Egypt in 2019.
The passing of Sue Prado is a great loss to the industry. The Philippines has not only lost a great actress, but also a defender of the rights of artists. In her final resting place, she will carry the love of her family and the respect of an entire nation that admired her talent and principles. Until next time, Sue Prado—your performances will live on in the hearts of every Filipino.
