Prince William has passed down an unexpectedly relatable dinner tradition to his three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – and it’s something millions of families enjoy every week. While royal meals are often imagined as elegant, French-inspired dishes served on fine china, the Wales household reportedly shares a love for pizza.

According to former royal chef Darren McGrady, who worked with different members of the British royal family over 15 years, the former monarch never ate pizza, which her son King Charles, grandson Prince William, and all three of his children love. The Queen typically preferred traditional French-inspired food, or simpler food such as grilled fish and vegetables.

Queen Elizabeth II was known for being rather selective with her food

In an interview with Us Weekly in July 2020, he revealed: “In the years that I cooked at [Buckingham Palace], the Queen never had pizza. I didn’t start cooking pizza until I moved across to Kensington Palace.”

When he moved over to cook for the late Princess Diana and her family, during his last four years working with the family, it became a common fixture on the menu. “I [made] pizza all the time for William,” he continued. “In my second cookbook, The Royal Chef at Home, there’s a chicken tikka masala pizza [recipe] because he loves Indian food. The pizza combined the two.”

The rest of the British royal family love pizza

It seems that a love of pizza must have grown later in the bloodline: King Charles was pictured in 2001 expertly spinning some dough while he paid a visit to The Benvenuti Italian Restaurant in Alnwick, Northumberland, looking like a professional.

Meanwhile in 2018, the Princess of Wales revealed that she and the children love homemade pizza during a visit to St Luke’s Community Centre. She said: “I really enjoy making pizza dough with George and Charlotte because they like getting their hands messy.”

Prince George was also pictured tucking into a few slices of pizza when he attended the England v Australia cricket match as part of the Ashes with his father in 2023. Clearly, it’s an all-round, all-occasion family favourite!

What snack did the late Queen Elizabeth II enjoy?

Though she wasn’t known as a foodie, the late Queen did have her favourites, one of which was chocolate. During an exclusive interview with HELLO!, Darren said that she was “absolutely a chocoholic,” adding: “Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would choose.”

Danielle Stacey, HELLO!‘s Online Royal Correspondent, explains that: “The late Queen was reportedly a huge fan of a chocolate biscuit cake, something she shared in common with her grandson, Prince William, who even requested that the sweet treat be served at his wedding to Kate in 2011”.

“200 MILLION BOOKS. ONE QUIET NIGHT. AND DOLLY PARTON BROKE DOWN.” They came expecting a tribute. A familiar song. A polite applause. Instead, the lights softened. And young voices filled the space. Not famous names. Not family. Just children who grew up with her words, long before they knew her face. More than 200 million books had quietly traveled into small hands around the world. Bedtime stories. Worn pages. Gentle beginnings. Dolly Parton once said if she couldn’t have children, she’d help raise everyone else. That night, those words stood in front of her. She didn’t cry for the music. She cried because her love had learned how to speak.  And what followed… wasn’t on the program.

“TWO VOICES. DECADES APART. MEETING IN A SINGLE MELODY.” The room shifted the second the lights found them. No cheers. No announcement. Just Willie Nelson with Trigger resting easy, and Lukas Nelson standing close enough to feel the years between them. When they started singing, something settled in the air. Willie’s worn, familiar voice didn’t compete with Lukas’s steadiness. It leaned into it. Like a conversation they’d been having their whole lives. Halfway through, people stopped moving. Phones dipped. Even the backstage noise went quiet. It didn’t feel like a show. It felt like inheritance—passed gently, without asking permission. There’s more behind that silence. And it says a lot about what lasts when the song ends

“Every note I sing… I carry their pain, their hopes, their heart with me.” That was the feeling in the room when Keith Urban stepped into Burden. From the first fragile chord, the air seemed to tighten. Written by Irish storyteller Foy Vance, the song already held weight — but that night, it felt heavier. Almost sacred. Urban didn’t perform it. He confessed it. Some swear the lights dimmed on their own. Others say they felt the song breathing with them. “I wasn’t crying,” one fan whispered, “until I realized I couldn’t stop.” What truly happened in those minutes — and why so many left shaken — is something the full story barely dares to explain.
