Max Chambers Shines on ‘The Voice’ Season 28 Premiere

The new season of The Voice kicked off with energy and excitement as coaches Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire competed to recruit the show’s newest talent. One standout moment came from 14-year-old Max Chambers of Shreveport, Louisiana, whose performance of the Jackson 5 classic “I Want You Back” wowed the coaches and audience alike. Max appeared on stage in a light blue suit, bow tie, and glasses, radiating charisma and talent far beyond his years.

Bublé and McEntire immediately battled to secure Max for their teams. Bublé praised his energy, saying, “The joy you just brought the whole room is immense… Fourteen — it’s gonna be crazy for people to watch how much you grow.” He also complimented Max’s pitch and vocal runs, emphasizing that with guidance, he could control his already impressive skills even further.

McEntire highlighted her experience recording all types of music, from R&B legends like Aretha Franklin to Diana Ross, and encouraged Max to join her team. Max shared that he’s been singing since he was just 2 years old and that he played young Michael Jackson on Broadway in MJ the Musical last year — an experience that clearly gave him poise and stage confidence.

Even Niall Horan was impressed, joking about almost hitting his buzzer. He told Max, “Your voice is so mature. That Broadway experience gives you a voice that’s been touring. Welcome to the show.” Snoop Dogg didn’t try to recruit Max but complimented his parents for raising such a talented young singer.

14-year-old “The Voice” contestant wows with Michael Jackson classic: 'I've got no idea why I didn't turn'

In the end, Max chose Bublé as his coach, who explained that Max’s Broadway background gives him the discipline to succeed in the competition. The show also highlighted other contestants, like Jack Austin, a 21-year-old from Battle Creek, Michigan, who performed Horan’s song “This Town.” Horan was thrilled, even joining Austin onstage for a duet, which the contestant called “a dream come true.”

The 28th season of The Voice promises a mix of youthful talent and seasoned performers, with episodes airing Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Fans can expect plenty of unforgettable moments, starting with Max Chambers’ electrifying debut.
