The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 31-0 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, moving the Chiefs up to 4-3 on the season and securing the team’s fourth win in the last five games.

The defense held Las Vegas to just 95 total yards, while the offense was led by another efficient day from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who completed 26 of 35 passes for 286 yards, three passing touchdowns and zero interceptions.

It was also the official NFL season debut for wide receiver Rashee Rice, who missed the first six games of the season due to suspension and finished the day with 42 receiving yards and two touchdowns on seven catches, leading the team in targets (10), touchdowns and receptions.

Despite the positive outcome, the Chiefs were hit with an unfortunate update on Monday when coach Andy Reid revealed to reporters that the team has yet to receive news on their first-round draft pick Josh Simmons.

“As far as Josh (Simmons) goes, I don’t have any updates for you. (Brett) Veach is handling all off that, Reid said.

Simmons was absent from the Chiefs’ Week 6 and Week 7 matchups and was listed as “out” due to personal/family reasons prior to the Raiders game.

Reports indicate that Simmons flew home to California on Oct. 12 and while Chiefs fans remained hopeful that he could be back for Week 8, this latest update signals a realistic chance that he could miss a third

Last season with the Buckeyes, he won a national championship and was named third team All-Big Ten, viewed by many as one of the top-rated offensive tackles in the draft.

The Chiefs ultimately looked at Simmons as a long-term solution at left tackle, a premium position to protect Mahomes, so much so that they were willing to spend a first round pick to get him.

While Mahomes has managed to stay upright without Simmons, Kansas City’s next few games are a gauntlet. First comes the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football” followed by a date with the Buffalo Bills and a divisional matchup with the Denver Broncos; three of the stingiest defenses in the NFL.
