Princess Kate to make solo appearance in London

Kate has been a patron of Anna Freud, a world-leading mental health charity for children and their families, since 2016.

She has made many visits to the charity in her nine years of patronage, such as to mark Mental Health Awareness Week in 2023.

This week’s engagement follows a collaboration between Anna Freud and Kate’s Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

The project focuses on tackling “technoference”. A mashup of technology and interference, the term refers to the way digital devices can disrupt family relationships.

During her visit, Kate is expected to meet with the charity’s Chief Executive, Professor Eamon McCrory, to learn more about how Anna Freud is advancing their mental health provision for young people through scientific research and clinical innovation.

Prince William is not believed to be joining her on the visit.

Kate delivers public speech

The visit comes after Kate delivered her first public speech in two years at the Future Workforce Summit, hosted by her Royal Foundation Centre, last week.

Tuesday’s (November 18) Shaping Us: Future Workforce Summit brought together more than 80 business leaders, aiming to encourage corporate investment in early years development.

The event was also a deeply personal milestone for the princess, marking her first public speech since her cancer diagnosis in 2024.

“A loving home ultimately teaches us how to love and how to care,” Kate said in her heartfelt address. “But every environment has the potential to shape our hearts. Imagine a world where [workplaces and communities] were built on valuing time and tenderness just as much as productivity and success.”

She went on to urge companies to embrace policies that support caregivers of children under five. The Princess stressed that “profitability and having a positive impact… are not incompatible”.

Kate also heartwarmingly described love as “the invisible thread” woven through early childhood.

Later on, former England football manager Sir Gareth Southgate stepped onstage for a candid discussion about leadership, childhood, and community.
