‘AMERICAN ROYALTY?’ TOM BOWER CLAIMS HARRY MAY WANT HIS CHILDREN TO KEEP THEIR ROYAL STATUS IN THE U.S. — AND THE IDEA IS ALREADY SPARKING FIERCE DEBATE
Explosive claims from royal biographer Tom Bower have ignited a storm online after he suggested that Prince Harry could be quietly pursuing a controversial goal: raising his children as a new kind of “American royalty.”
Speaking about the future of the Sussex family, Bower claimed the Duke of Sussex may want his children — Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex — to maintain their royal identities while growing up in the United States.
The children, who live with Harry and Meghan Markle in California, were officially styled Prince and Princess after their grandfather, King Charles III, ascended the throne.
But Bower suggested the move could represent something much bigger than tradition.
“Harry left Britain to escape the constraints of royal life,” Bower has argued in interviews. “Yet the royal titles remain — and that raises questions about how those titles will be used in America.”
The comments have quickly fueled debate on social media, where critics and supporters are clashing over the idea of royal titles existing in the United States.
Some commentators argue that the situation highlights a contradiction in the Sussex narrative. After stepping back from official royal duties in 2020, the couple repeatedly emphasized their desire for independence from the monarchy.
Yet their children now carry titles historically tied to the British royal system.
For critics, that combination has raised eyebrows.
“America was founded on rejecting monarchy,” one commentator wrote online. “So the idea of ‘American royalty’ feels strange to many people.”
Others, however, see the situation differently.

Supporters argue that the titles are part of the children’s birthright and heritage as grandchildren of the reigning monarch. From that perspective, Archie and Lilibet’s titles simply reflect their place within the royal family — regardless of where they live.
Still, royal watchers say the issue touches on a deeper tension surrounding Harry’s life since stepping away from the institution he once represented.
After relocating to California in 2020, Harry and Meghan have built a new career path focused on media projects, philanthropy and public speaking. Their move transformed them from working royals into global public figures operating largely outside the palace system.
But their royal connections remain impossible to ignore.
“Harry has tried to build a new life in America,” one royal observer said. “But the reality is that his children are still part of the royal line — and that inevitably keeps the monarchy in the conversation.”
Whether the idea of “American royalty” becomes reality or simply remains speculation, Bower’s remarks have once again placed the Sussex family at the center of a heated debate.
And as discussions continue to rage on both sides of the Atlantic, one thing is certain: the intersection of royalty, celebrity and American culture is proving just as controversial as ever.
