Our case today took place in the country of Luxembourg, a small country surrounded by France, Germany and Belgium. Despite the small size of this country, which is almost the size of a province in the Philippines, it is known for its wealth and security and was even named in 2024 as the richest country in the world based on its GDP.

In ure alz, a quiet city in the country, a strange story of tragedy occurred involving one of our compatriots who was stranded in the place, Leonida Kalika. Leonida Kalika never dreamed of leaving the Philippines. Leonida, who was a year old, lives in San Juan La Union. There she grew up in a simple life in their home near the sea.

She once wondered what life was like in another country, but for her, simplicity was enough. Everything changed in October 2017 when she was assigned to be a facilitator at an international conference in Manila. One of the attendees was  Heinrich Muller, a 55-year-old  Luxembourg businessman. Heinrich was quiet and unfriendly, especially since it was not like that.

She was fluent and confident in speaking English but she felt a certain ease in talking to Leonida. Leonida also felt this, feeling comfortable whenever she talked to him. When they met, Heinrich asked for Leonida’s email address, which she immediately gave him. Months passed, their conversations became frequent until Heinrich decided to return to the Philippines to visit him. Their relationship continued.

And not long after, he proposed marriage to her on December 5, 2018. They got married at the Luxembourg City Hall. From the hot tropical climate of La Unon, she ended up in the cold and quiet city of Salz. Leonida knew that everything would not be easy, so before she flew to Europe, she studied German for six months.

Sometimes she got tired of the repeated practice, but she thought that life would be easier if she understood her surroundings. When she arrived in Luxembourg, she was greeted by the cold December air and a house that was a stranger to her. The corner was clean, the furniture was modern, but she felt the weight of wind not because of the climate at their first dinner he met Nathalie Stoffel the TL year old daughter of Heinrich with his broken wife for the first time only a year it was clear that the wall that the woman had built between them Natalie’s eyes

quickly scanned her appearance from the simple clothes she was wearing to the way she spoke German she sat at the end of the table as if to make sure that there was a distance between them after dinner Leonida heard faint whispers in the living room even though the words were not clear the sound of anger in Natalie’s voice was enough to gradually build the story in her mind she could not accept that there was a new woman living in the house that had been theirs for a long time and above all her daughter clearly saw that

she was a foreigner a Filipina from a poor country in their view did not belong in the luxurious house of the Mullers Natalie’s display of annoyance towards Leonida became open the awkwardness could be seen on her face especially when she could smell the dishes like adobo and sinigang that Leonida was serving for her husband Heinrich  Leonida tried to understand her daughter’s behavior.

She thought it might just be jealousy or it was probably just part of the adjustment she had to go through. Once, she cooked apple tart, Natalie’s favorite dessert, according to Heinrich. She offered it to the woman when she visited, but Nathalie didn’t even look at what she was serving. Instead, she turned her back and didn’t notice or hear anything from Leonida.

Leonida noticed that whenever Natalie came, her husband, Victor Stoffel, didn’t leave her either. He was a big man, quiet but always had a warm look around the house. They often talked in whispers in the living room. After a long discussion,  Heinrich would always take out an envelope. Leonida knew what was in the envelope. Money for her  daughter’s wishes.

As the day went by, she noticed that Heinrich was getting tired quickly. He often said that it was normal and just a matter of age. But even at night, Leonida noticed her husband’s weakness. On those occasions, she silently watched him while drinking tea on the balcony. That tea was always with him.

heinrich before going to bed that Natalie mixed before he left and said that it was for his father’s health March 18, 2020 Leonida woke up in the strange silence of the morning Usually at this time on March she heard heinrich opening the newspaper in the living room she got up and saw her husband lying down when she held his hand it was cold She tried to wake him up But it was too late Leonida thought her husband had a nightmare and she also suspected that it had something to do with the then spreading pandemic covid-19 anyway she called an

ambulance to take her husband to the hospital but the doctor declared him dead A few hours later Natalie and Victor arrived anger could be seen on their faces but they had cold expressions she blamed Leonida for what happened and said that she did not take care of her father she said hurtful words and told him to just go home to the Philippines all this Leonida understood in her mind that she was just carrying heavy emotions With the loss of her father Natalie who  who was fluent in German was the one who asked to get

her father’s remains from the hospital. She arranged the documents so that her father could be released immediately and given a funeral. Meanwhile, Leonida went home to get dressed and noticed the cup of tea on the table. She looked at it and saw the strange residue of white powder B at the bottom of the glass.

Although she was surprised, she did not pay attention to it. Two days passed since Heinrich’s funeral, but Leonida could not rest as if something was bothering her mind. On March 21, 2020, she went to the doctor to make a death certificate. The doctor said that the cause of death was natural causes, so she did not opt for it anymore.

But Leonida was not convinced by that explanation. From the clinic, she went straight to the office of the private investigator Emil Weber. She told everyone who noticed Heinrich’s dizziness, the smell of tea, and the white residue in the cup. She also asked to examine her  husband’s body at that time. Nathalie and Victor were not there because they were arranging the document that they no longer had.

Leonida was informed but she knew it had to do with the money and properties of her late husband. This was the opportunity to perform the autopsy again and a surprising thing was discovered. Heinrich’s body was poisoned. Potassium Cyanide, a type of chemical that kills by stopping the heartbeat, was found.

Leonida was depressed when she discovered that the suspicion she had been trying to deny was true. There was poison in her husband’s tea and in her mind, it was clear who had done it. Leonida temporarily hid what she had found out from the couple. The next day, she returned to Emil’s office and told him everything she had noticed.

The strange residue in the cup, the smell in the tea, and the visit by Natalie and Victor that night. She also said that Natalie had always asked Heinrich for money. She also couldn’t accept that her father had a new wife. Emil asked to see the CCTV footage in their house a few weeks before he died. Heinrich decided to install CCTV to make sure the home was safe.

Three days later, Emil called again. He discovered something in the footage of the night Heinrich died. Natalie was seen entering the kitchen.  took the tea bag, took out a small sachet from his pocket and poured the contents into the tea, along with a clear liquid but probably poison, while Victor stood at the door, secretly watching, Leonida was shocked by what she discovered, she went to the police station with the autopsy results and the footage from Emil, the police quietly looked at the evidence, they said the investigation would begin, when she got home,

Leonida sat on the sofa, she felt a mixture of nervousness and fear, but despite this, she knew she had to fight for her husband, two days passed, Leonida was resting in the living room when someone called her from the police, she said that Natalie and Victor were found at an expensive resort in Moel Valley, the two were on vacation after the lib and seemed to be unsettled, with  Heinrich missing, the two were arrested under the warrant of arrest that was served on them, according to the report, Natalie tried to explain and said it was impossible for

her to be involved in the crime, Victor remained silent and did not speak while Unida sat on the edge of the bed, she did not know whether to be happy  He was looking for justice for Heinrich and the law was slowly moving on the other hand He couldn’t get rid of the weight because his wife’s own son was behind everything The next day someone called from the police saying they wanted to invite him to the interrogation of those caught He went to the police station and slowly approached the room where the interrogation was being conducted Through a small

crack in the window he saw Natalie sitting in front of the officers She was silent But when the CCTV footage was shown Her expression changed She looked away and Nervous Later she pointed to Victor who was the ringleader of everything in the other room Victor remained silent when the same video was shown to him He looked at the floor A few minutes passed before he raised his head and spoke He admitted that he and Natalie had both planned to put poison in Heinrich’s tea They did that to get a large part of the property and

throw Leonida out of the house Leonida sat at the police station while thinking about the revelations heard in the words Victor said She remembered every opportunity  Natalie showed  her whiteness. From the beginning, she was not accepted and now it is clear that it was not only anger that drove her husband’s son, greed was the real reason.

The next day, Leonida was called to the police station again. The Investigators said that they were ready to pursue the murder case against Natalie and Victor. Inside the interrogation room, he saw Natalie again. She admitted that she had been angry with her father for a long time, since her mother died. She became busy with work and rarely paid attention to him when Heinrich got married.

Natalie was completely filled with anger at Leonida. She felt like she had been completely sidelined. She wanted to take back everything, the wealth, the house, and the father’s attention. In her and Victor’s plan, they would clean the house by getting rid of Leonida and taking the property.

The poison in the tea became a way for them to get what they wanted. A few days after the interrogation, it was taken to court. The case was processed quickly because of clear evidence. On April 25, 2021, before the judge, Natalie and Victor Stoffel were sentenced to TL years in prison each. While the court decision was being read, Natalie didn’t move, it seemed like she still couldn’t accept what had happened, while Victor didn’t react, as if she had accepted it.

After the trial, Leonida left the courthouse, taking a deep breath because finally there was clarity. Everything was proven to be guilty. Several weeks passed after the trial. Leonida returned to their house in As Alz. The former place full of worries and tension returned to its original form, but in that silence, the painful past was still there.

One afternoon, while organizing old documents in Heinrich’s office, she noticed a small envelope in a drawer. She read it. It contained a letter written by her husband before they got married. Heinrich expressed how happy he was to meet Leonida, who he considered to have given new color to his life. He admitted in the letter that his relationship with his son was not good and that he was doing this as a way to improve their marriage by providing support for his son even though he was married.

The letter also included Heinrich’s last request in case anything happened to him.  bad in the future after reading she held her chest she didn’t know heinrich knew the danger that was coming it was clear to her why her husband was always anxious the next day leonida went to heinrich’s lawyer there she showed it and looked for the official copy of the last will when the lawyer opened it to confirm everything in the legal document it clearly stated that 80% of all the assets including the house business and bank accounts were in

leonida’s name 20% should have gone to Natalie but because she was in prison that part would automatically be transferred to leonida when she didn’t ask for the wealth left by her husband All she wanted was to have a child who would help and bless her but everything was gone as the month passed she stayed in luxembourg in the house that her husband had worked hard for occasionally going back to la unon to visit the family but also didn’t stay in the philippines because she didn’t want to leave the place that reminded

her of heinrich whom she truly loved and could never forget now leonida spent her days happily  In Luxembourg, she continued to study German and now she tried to find a job to entertain herself. From time to time, she makes a living as a translator for Filipinos and Englishmen who have landed in the area.

She plans to adopt or otherwise bring one of her nephews to Luxembourg so that she can have someone to be with and serve her child. Despite everything that happened, Leonida promised herself that she would never love anyone else and that she would remember Heinrich H for the rest of her life. [Music]
