On the final night of Emman Atienza’s funeral, a night that should have been filled with profound grief, the atmosphere was suddenly filled with stories of unparalleled kindness, authenticity, and love. Amid the intense pain of loss, the Atienza family shared memories that painted a picture of Emman as not only a son and brother, but an inspiration, a “Kindness Warrior” whose goal in life was to give without expecting anything in return.
Emman Atienza, at the age of 19, left a legacy that transcends her short life. Her parents—seasoned TV personality Kim Atienza and her husband Feli Kung Atienza—gave eulogies that revealed the depth of her generosity to a fault and her courage to be true in the midst of her own struggles.

Stories of “Generosity to a Fault”
Kim Atienza couldn’t hide her immense pride as she remembered her son Emman, whom she called “Emanski.” Kim admitted that losing Emman was the lowest point of her life, especially since her prayers every night were for his safety and recovery. But she is grateful for the 19 years of beautiful life they were given.
Kim’s recollection centers on Emman’s extreme generosity, to the point where he no longer valued money. She shares two surprising and touching stories that demonstrate Emman’s unique character.
The first was at Christmas, after her grandfather (Kim’s father) gave all her grandchildren, including Emman, a large sum of money to save or use for their education. A few days later, Emman proudly shared with her father what she had done. “ Papa, I gave 30,000 pesos to the driver, I gave 20,000 pesos to Alicia, I gave 10,000 pesos to our gardener and they were crying tears of joy ,” Kim recalled her son’s words.
Kim asked Emman why they were crying. “They’re crying, Emman, because they’ve never received so much in their lives,” she replied. Finally, she told Emman that she was proud of him, but never to tell his mother because she would be angry. This, Kim said, was her Emman—giving without hesitation.
But the story that best illustrates her extraordinary generosity is what happened before she flew to Los Angeles. Kim was supposed to accompany Emman to buy new glasses, which cost P15,000. While waiting for the lenses to be fitted, Emman offered to give pizza to his friends at the climbing gym .
Kim expected to pay only about P3,500, but the receipt was for P28,000. It turned out that Emman ordered about 20 pizzas for about 100 of his friends at the gym. “ That’s my Eman, so generous ,” Kim said emphatically. In addition, he often asked his parents for Gcash or borrowed a car to take the ten friends to their respective homes.
The Secret Light: A Letter That Brought Comfort
In the midst of her questioning of God about her son’s disappearance, Kim Atienza asked for a sign, an answer to the question ‘why.’ The answer came in the form of a letter from someone she did not know—an Indonesian student named Kahaya.
The content of the letter provided a strong emotional hook amidst the mourning:
“I myself struggle with my own battles and on the same day that she passed I also attempted,” bahagi ng sulat.
According to Kahaya, Emman is one of the brightest people she has ever met, and she has been a great inspiration to her. They are open with each other about mental health . Kahaya’s most touching promise is this: “ I will continue to live in honor of your daughter and will do everything in my power to keep it that way .”
This letter brought peace to Kim Atienza. It confirmed that Emman’s life was not in vain. It conveyed an important message: despite her own struggles, Emman still gave space and hope to others. “ The message is very clear: be a little kind every day. Just a little kindness every single day ,” Kim said. For her, if she could be kind now, Emman would be alive in her heart.
Emman: The “Version Two” of Courage and Intelligence
A mother’s emotional perspective brought added depth to the remembrance of Emman. Feli Kung Atienza shared that Emman is her “mini me,” although she also shares some similarities with her father—such as the gift of yaking (storytelling/chattering) and the passion for drama (singing, acting, dancing).
But Feli insists that Emman is smarter than her: she is her “version two.” She remembers what Emman’s principal said in elementary school: “ The best Atienza is yet to come .” Even her English teacher at boarding school said that Emman was one of the most exceptional students she had ever had. Aside from being extremely intelligent, she also had a very high EQ .
However, Emman’s most unique quality, according to Feli, is her authenticity . Emman shared her stories fearlessly—including her pain, struggles, and joys. Because of this, she made a deep connection with many people. “ She always had space for others even in her darkest moment ,” Feli concluded movingly. The powerful outpouring of love for Emman is a testament to her authenticity.
With Emman gone, all that was left was silence. But, according to Feli, she can still hear his loud laugh, his yapping , and his singing. She can still see him walking around in his sassy street wear and doing cartwheels around the house. And most of all, she can smell Emman’s favorite perfume—Jo Malone—which she admits she “snitched” from her son’s room and wore that night.
In extreme pain, Feli promised: “ Will heaven gain an angel, know that I will carry your torch here on earth .” Her words served as an extraordinary declaration of love: “ Emman, Emman, Emman, you are my sunshine, you are my love, you are my everything .”

The Promise of Heritage and the Spirit of Kindness
Emman’s grandfather also testified to his grandson’s extreme generosity, which confirmed Kim Atienza’s story. He recalled giving P100,000 each to his 22 grandchildren. Emman divided his P100,000 among three people. “Do you know anyone who does this? I don’t know anyone, except Emman,” he said firmly.
Memories, anecdotes, and revelations from the Atienza family paint a clear picture: Emman’s life left a legacy that far outweighed her own experiences. Her openness about her mental health struggles allowed others struggling like her, like the Indonesian student, to find a reason to live.
His legacy is not seen in the length of his life, but in the depth of his impact — born from a heart so generous and a spirit so boldly true. The final night of his funeral became a night of thanksgiving, a call to all to carry on his spirit.
Kim Atienza’s reminder will remain a guiding principle for those who love Emman: “ Be a little kind every day .” With every small act of kindness shown, the spirit of Emman Atienza—the Kindness Warrior —will live on and shine. This is her everlasting memory, and this is the promise of her legacy.
