“I’ll just kill myself if I do that.”
This is the declaration of actor and senator Robin Padilla on the accusation that he used a dirty-finger sign while singing “Lupang Hinirang” in the Senate plenary.
In his sudden Facebook live broadcast this Thursday night, September 11, 2025, Padilla’s face showed the deep sadness he felt due to the report released by a news organization.
The actor-politician said: “This is happening now, I’m surprised.
“It’s a huge thing for me, it’s a test of my faith, and it’s something that if I overcome it correctly, I will be rewarded by Allah.”
“Because today, when I came home, my wife [Mariel Rodriguez] was sad.
“He is concerned because [news organization] released a news story.

“This [news organization] has been my friend for a long time, I still don’t know why they made this article.
“It says here, ‘Senator Padilla’s dirty finger.’”
CONTENT OF THE POST
Robin read the entire content of the article he was referring to:
“During the opening of the Senate plenary session on September 8, 2025, Senator Robin Padilla flashed his middle finger — a vulgar gesture — while making it appear he is just placing his right hand to his left chest while singing the Philippine national anthem.

“It was during the plenary session when Senator Chiz Escudero whom Padilla and other Duterte allies supported, was ousted as Senate president.’”
The post included a photo of Robin, where his right hand rests on his chest and his middle finger appears to be raised.

ROBIN PADILLA EXPLAINS PLACEMENT OF INDEX FINGER
Following this, the senator issued a complaint.
“You know, if I make a mistake, you should just, even if you’re friends, scold me. Make an issue of it.”
“But this is completely true, this did not happen. There is a real picture of what we are doing.
“I want to inform all of you, this is sacred to us Muslims,” said Robin, showing his index finger.

The placement of the index finger when singing the Philippine National Anthem is said to be related to his religion as a Muslim.
He continued: “It is holy because this is what it means, la ilaha illa Allah . It means, ‘There is no other God worthy of worship except Allah.’
“This is the foundation of our faith. This is where our love, respect, and obedience to the Lord Allah rests.”
“We can’t turn this into a profanity.”
Robin added: “I’ll just kill myself if I do that.
“I ask that you please not make a fool of this because this is the foundation of all Muslim beliefs.”
“This means, when we put it here [on the chest], God is first. Lord Allah is first of all.”
“That’s why when we sing ‘Lupang Hinirang,’ that’s why it’s included here, we truly love the Philippines.
“That’s true, but first comes the Lord Allah.”

“We can read that in our constitution. The Lord God comes first.”
He further pleaded with the news organization: “Don’t do that. Don’t insult my faith.”
“I’m not stopping you if I make a mistake. You can scold me even if we’re friends.”
“But when it comes to our faith, we die for our faith.”
“We are ready to give our lives to Allah.”
“FAKE NEWS”
Robin let out a deep sigh before showing a clear copy of the photo showing that his index finger, not the mistaken middle finger, was resting on his chest while singing “Lupang Hinirang.”

Robin also called on people not to believe the fake news that has surfaced.
“There, you will see that I have not done anything disrespectful to our religion and I have not done anything disrespectful to our flag. Nothing.”
“So, my countrymen, I am holding back because Allah says, the Messenger says, when you are oppressed, be humble, control your anger, you are more manly, you are more courageous.”
“I appeal to our countrymen who have been misled by this fake news, this fake news article.”
“To all of you, I ask you not to believe that I will do this.”
“I’m just going to kill myself, I can’t do that.”
He added: “Many people are telling me to sue. Oh, my reward will be reduced.
“I will give this to God because of our faith, what you give to Allah, He will give me the reward and Allah will take care of you.”
