Gaslighting, excuses, sudden withdrawal.

These are some of the criticisms netizens have leveled at digital creator and businessman Josh Mojica in relation to the controversy he is involved in.

In a reaction video released by Josh on Saturday, August 23, 2025, he criticized several media organizations, including a former public official, for allegedly spreading fake news that he is a “billionaire.”

THE ‘BILLIONAIRE’ ISSUE

It all started when Josh reposted a Facebook fan account’s post on August 18, 2025.

“21 years old, are you already a billionaire?” was the caption on the FB post that included Josh’s photo.

This caught the attention of netizens, including former COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guanzon.

Guanzon reposted the screenshot of Josh resharing his fan account’s post.

Guanzon’s caption asks a question.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) was tagged here and Guanzon asked to fact check Josh’s shared post.

Guanzon’s full caption: “I thought the youngest billionaire had a good personality? Why is this kangkong claiming it?”

“Bureau of Internal Revenue Philippines, please check that person’s taxes.”

Josh deleted his repost, but its screenshot has since gone viral.

JOSH’S REACTION VIDEO

On Saturday, Josh uploaded a video in reaction to the controversy.

The businessman who became famous for his kangkong chips business explained and defended himself.

Josh admitted that he reshared a fan’s post about being a “billionaire.”

He admitted, “And I shared it because I was happy with the comments, because, honestly, that’s really my dream — to become a billionaire one day.”

According to Josh, he has inspired many young people.

After this, he added: “An internet personality believed it and some immediately spread fake news.

“And they said I claimed to be a billionaire. That I should be looked into by a government agency.”

Josh added: “First of all, let’s be clear, I have never claimed to be a billionaire. We’re too small for that.

“Pangalawa, I have always been diligent and compliant in running my business.”

He says everything he does is “legal, transparent, and focused on growth.”

He further alleged, “So, there are people and some news outlets who are spreading fake news. It’s sad.”

He said that instead of presenting positivity and truth, “they prefer to turn other people’s names into humor or entertainment.”

He then targeted a government official.

Josh said: “And what’s even more painful than this, it’s sad that even one of the highest leaders in our society, a very talented lawyer, and former commissioner of one of the largest government agencies, believes and spreads fake news.

“If those big guys are so convincing, what about normal people who don’t have time to fact check what’s true and what’s not?”

Josh didn’t mention any names, but it was clear that he was referring to Guanzon.

The businessman said that other people are more easily deceived about the big problem of fake news.

Josh emphasized in the video that he is a “dreamer” who strives to succeed as an entrepreneur.

“And while I am busy striving and working hard for my future, others or most of those on the Internet are busy creating and spreading fake news for their own benefit.”

In conclusion, the vlogger asked who is truly pitiful about this issue.

Several vlogs reported Josh’s reaction video.

Of these, the young businessman was criticized the most for allegedly reposting a Facebook post that Josh Mojica himself said was fake news.

“BOBO FAKE NEWS BUT TO HIM, SHINARE IS THE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT… STUPID,” one replied.

“Fake news but you shared it,” another one poked.

Another one quipped, “But he didn’t share the post that he’s a Billionaire HAHAHAHA.”

“You posted it and then you said it was fake news, you idiot,” commented another.

“You posted on your own FB, so what’s fake news? Is your hand fake news? And what’s wrong with your body being separated from your hand? I think you’re high,” another one poked.

“You’re funny! He spread that on social media. He’s just afraid the BIR will come after him,” another one snapped.

Others did not spare Josh what they said was gaslighting.

The issue that the businessman himself was at fault did not escape them.

Netizen’s comment: “Even when he was gaslighted. Twisting his own words, he did it.”

There were many more comments like this about Josh’s “sudden comeback,” “slipping up,” “washing his hands,” and change of tone after discussing his repost about being a “billionaire.”

A female netizen hit back at Josh, saying instead of letting him down, he should admit his mistake.

Based on his reaction video, Josh clearly accused Guanzon of spreading fake news.

But if you read Guanzon’s caption, the word he used was “claim,” and he asked the BIR to verify the “fake news” about the billionaire that Josh reposted.

Contrary to Josh’s statement, Guanzon’s caption seeks to verify and avoid fake news.

It appears that Josh did not understand the context of Guanzon’s post before issuing the statement.

Other netizens also didn’t miss the recent issue involving Josh when he was given a 90-day driver’s license suspension after a video of him driving a Porsche luxury car along EDSA went viral.

This is clearly a traffic violation.

He admitted that mistake.

Based on the comments of many netizens, many understood the issue.

Contrary to Josh’s statement that ordinary netizens believe fake news, especially if it is believed by the leaders of society.

Josh himself, the statements in the reaction video he made are full of contradictions.

For a content creator with hundreds of thousands of followers, sharing a post that he knows is fake news is irresponsible.

Josh seems to be mocking the ability of some netizens to determine what is fake news and what is not.

Based on the comments on this story, many netizens demonstrated their ability to understand an issue well.

On this issue, many netizens proved that the correct understanding of an issue or situation has nothing to do with whether you have money or not.
