Liza Soberano on breakup with Enrique Gil: “Quen and I have decided to separate ways. That is because our values and the way we see life doesn’t align anymore, because of the whole change that I went through last year.”

After more than two years,  Fast Talk with Boy Abunda finally aired  the unaired part of Boy Abunda’s exclusive interview with Liza Soberano about her breakup with Enrique Gil.

This was after Liza made public the end of her almost eight-year relationship with Enrique on the episode of  the Can I Come In  podcast on August 14, 2025.

Liza confessed that she and the actor have been on a break for over three years.

This is consistent with a previous report in December 2023 by PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that the couple had been separated since October 2022.

The two just begged Boy not to release Liza’s revelation.

Boy respected their request, which led to their fans’ doubts that the news that Liza and Enrique’s relationship had ended was untrue.

 This Monday, August 18, Fast Talk With Boy Abunda finally released  the said interview with Liza, where she first admitted that she and Enrique had broken up.

Boy’s interview with Liza took place on March 7, 2023.

Before releasing the unreleased clip, Boy shared that after Liza confessed, the actress begged not to release her revelation because Enrique was not ready to make it public.

Lahad ni Boy: “Liza and I were in touch a few times, and also with Quen’s [Enrique] representation.

“We respected their request not to air the interview even though speculations were already circulating that they were separated. We stood by our possesion until Liza’s revelation last week.

“And because of that recent revelation, we believe it’s time to watch the twelve-minute portion of my interview with Liza about her and Quen’s breakup.”

Boy reportedly consulted their lawyer regarding the release of the said unreleased video clip.

Here, she was given the go signal that it could be aired after Liza admitted everything on the podcast.

LIza’s first time confirming breakup with Enrique

Liza’s admission about the end of her relationship with Enrique happened when Boy asked her where the actor was during the times he was facing controversy.

This is related to a misunderstanding between the actress and her former manager, Ogie Diaz.

Boy asked Liza: “This is a very difficult question to ask because there is so much going on in your life.

“I think this is the most exciting points of your life, very challenging, you know, you’re controversial…

“And the question in people’s mind, I think the elephant in the room is, ‘Nasaan si Quen, nasaan si Enrique Gil? Why isn’t he saying anything?’

“That leads me to this very difficult question: Is he still present in your life, kayo pa ba ni Quen?”

Liza couldn’t answer right away, she bowed her head and stopped for a moment.

His face and voice showed emotion as he said: “Quen and I have decided to separate ways.

“That is because our values and the way we see life doesn’t align anymore, because of the whole change that I went through last year.

“We decided that it was just easier to separate ways and find ourselves first — to kind of explore before we take it to the next level.

“Because we were in a relationship for a long time, almost eight years, before we broke up.”

Liza shared that throughout their relationship, they were often asked when they would get married or keep quiet.

This is where Liza started to wonder if she was ready for this because at that time, she still wanted to do a lot and achieve things on her own.

Saad niya: “I came to a point where I didn’t know if that’s what I wanted anymore, honestly, because there’s so much more that I still want to achieve.

“And he’s older than me, he’s in his 30s. Of course, he’s thinking about settling down, starting a family.

“And so, it just doesn’t line up anymore.”

Although they had different goals and priorities, the two eventually agreed to separate.

But unlike others, Liza and Enrique reportedly parted ways amicably.

Until the end, their breakup was full of understanding and love.

Pahayag ni Liza: “It was difficult. It’s still difficult to this day because we didn’t end things on bad terms.

“In fact, like, he still messages me from time to time. He still tries to show support for everything that I’m doing.

“And so, like, it’s hard because we don’t have any ill feelings towards each other.

“There’s still a lot of love, care for each other, but it’s just we, at the moment, we need to grow first…

“And we are friends today… He still loves me. I still have love for him.”

Boy asked pointedly, “Is it trying to win it back, is it courting you again?”

Sagot ni Liza, “Yes. He has consistently been doing that.”

Liza also explained why she and Enrique were unable to make their separation public immediately.

He said it was difficult for both of them to accept the end of their love.

Additionally, Liza was afraid of what others might say and what would happen to her showbiz career if their fans found out that they were separated.

The actress tearfully said: “It’s hard. My identity is so attached to him and my loveteam.

“Of course, I’m scared. My whole family and his family, we’re like one big family already.

“My friends are his friends.

“My whole world basically revolved around him from my career.

“And our personal lives, and so it’s scary to come forward because it’s such a big change in our life.

“And you don’t know how people are going to take it. So I didn’t want to come forward for a long time.”

It got to the point where Liza dared to announce it, but Enrique wasn’t ready.

Pagbabalik-tanaw niya: “It came to a point where I wanted to start talking about it, but he wasn’t comfortable with it either because that’s just the type of person he is.

“He’s very private, everybody knows that about him. He doesn’t post much on social media, and that’s okay.

“So, out of respect for one another, we decided not to talk about it till both of us are ready to come forward with it.”

Liza also clarified that no one else was involved in their separation.

“There’s no third party. I know people always like to make it about that, but no, we just grew apart.”

In the end, Liza apologized to Enrique for choosing her over herself.

Aniya: “I would say sorry to him for, you know, last year was a tough year for me, both of us. It was a huge changing point in both of our lives.

“I started wanting change for myself professionally and also I wanted change for myself in my personal life.

“I wanted to start creating healthy boundaries between my family, my friends, people in my personal life, because before that, I honestly didn’t have any.

“And he has a better understanding of that.

“While I was looking for myself, I didn’t realize that he was also just as lost and so there was a lot of miscommunication that went on.

“I feel like I should say sorry for not being as understanding or being able to see his struggles, because I was struggling at the same time too.”

Liza Soberano admits that she was scared to announce the breakup as her “world basically revolved around Enrique Gil.”

Liza then expressed her gratitude for Enrique’s acceptance and understanding of her decisions.

“I want to say thank you, because he was very understanding of the whole situation. Till now, he supports me with everything that I do.

“He’s always been, you know, a good friend to me, a good boyfriend.

“Everything that I have now, lahat ng success ko, he was the person that I got to share that with, and that was a good experience.”

Aside from Enrique, the actress also thanked and apologized to the fans of their duo, LizQuen.

Mensahe niya: “To my fans, also sorry for the lack of communication.

“It’s hard, I’m always thinking about whether what I said or what I do is wrong or right in their eyes.

“And sometimes it gets confusing because there’s a lot of them and they all have different opinions.
