Alden on his shocking bedroom scene with Kathryn: “I really adjusted to her kung saan siya mas comfortable.”
Alden Richards did an unexpected bedroom scene with Kathryn Bernardo for their first movie team-up, Hello, Love, Goodbye.
Without giving too much details about the scene for those who have not yet watched the film, Alden and director Cathy Garcia-Molina described how they shot the shocking scene that takes place inside a hotel room.
According to Alden, who plays Ethan in the film, it was the first scene he shot together with Kathryn, who plays Joy.
“That was my first day on the movie and then that scene and of course, I was nervous because what if when I saw it…that’s it.”
“I just gave Kath the scene, I really adjusted to where she was most comfortable, and also to Director Cathy’s instructions on what to do.”
“I just followed the instructions because of course, I have to make Kathryn comfortable as well because she is the woman and, of course, she also takes a lot into consideration, especially when doing scenes.”
“But we were able to deliver well in that scene and he was funny.”
“It’s really not about the scene, what it was about, but the message of the scene, why it happened, that’s where it all started. With the guidance of Direk Cathy, the scene went well.”
During the August 1 bloggers’ conference for the movie, Direk Cathy was asked if there was “daya” done in the scene.
She answered with a smile, “That’s just ours, they’re called trade secrets, not shine-share!”
Director Cathy then added, “That took a lot of takes, because of course Alden, as much as he is a talented actor, still doesn’t know me.
“As much as he heard a lot, he didn’t really know, so he did a lot of things like, ‘What are you doing, Alden?’ So he did a lot of takes.
“So if you notice, if you were there, the early shoots, Alden took more takes because I still felt like I was making an effort, I was tense, so something came out that wasn’t necessary. And then I asked him to relax.
“And Alden has a lot of take-ones. Especially the more difficult and longer lines, in fairness to this guy, when he’s asked to memorize them, he’ll come to my set, memorize them. He’s not a diva yet, eh. Let him try!”
SECOND UNEXPECTED SCENE OF KATHRYN AND ALDEN
After that first scene, Kathryn and Alden also did another scene that could surprise their fans and viewers.
Since the scene was a bit daring, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Direk Cathy how she motivated Kathryn who is not used to doing such intimate scenes.
Director Cathy said, “There was the trash scene, we talked about it for a long time, so when she came to the set, she was ready, with the permission of whoever she had introduced, so she was ready.
“The second one, she was really scared and trembling.
When they shot the scene, Direk Cathy already allowed Kathryn to see her boyfriend, Daniel Padilla, who visited them during their Hong Kong shoot.
During the press conference for Hello, Love, Goodbye, Kathryn said that she was not immediately allowed to see Daniel during his visit since she had to prepare for a heavy scene.
Director Cathy continued, “The scene was difficult because she had to cry. Well, that part, we kind of celebrated a little bit because it was after that when Daniel arrived in Hong Kong, so she was happy and I kind of lied low to her because that was the time when Joy could be happy because she had Ethan in her life.
“I had a hard time because I couldn’t take him to where he needed to be because the others were taken first, and then that was the last one because it was one of the things I delayed a bit until he was ready.”
“No, that’s exactly what it is. So I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“Because I don’t call an artist to cry, eh. I’m not like that, eh, but I think everything I’ve been through, I’m the one who had a hard time, I’m the one who cried.”
“But he knows, I said, ‘See, son, that’s why it’s very difficult for artists, you can’t close wounds, because those are the ones you’re going to hurt when you have to pull them out.
“So you always have to have fresh wounds, so before, it looked like it had closed and healed, I had to pick at it. It was hard. But when this happens, you’ve done it right, you will reap the fruits of your labor.”
Director Cathy pointed out that Alden had a passive role in the sensitive scene of Kathryn: “Of course, he [Alden] is there, nothing too perfect, you know that, he is just a mortal.
“But I will commend Kathryn for being brave and this is it, this kid is really getting older.”
“He’s maturing, he understands more things, he knows why different scenes are needed and not. I always promise, I’ll take care of them.”
ASKING PERMISSION FROM DANIEL PADILLA
Since Kathryn had to do shocking scenes with Alden in Hello, Love, Goodbye, did Direk Cathy ask permission from Daniel to allow his girlfriend to do these sensitive scenes?
Director Cathy answered, “The truth is, of course, those who need to be informed are informed, they need to be set aside.
“But it’s up to Kathryn who she says goodbye to.
“As much as I respect DJ and he’s my friend, Kathryn should be the one who’s more involved with him, right?”
“So Kathryn knew what was going to happen, mommy knew, we discussed it and mommy knew that I would take care of the scene. My God, that’s my child, so they knew that I would take care of it.”
“And Alden is a gentleman being, so she [Kathryn], whoever she said goodbye to, thank you very much to everyone who agreed.
“Huh, they’re wondering, it’s like I’m saying what that is, it’s wrong, it’s not that!”
As for Alden, he has been vocal in saying that he texted Daniel before he started shooting the movie with Kathryn.
“Well, actually, hindi naman na po lingid sa kaalaman na I really texted him personally before we started and asked and thanked him for letting Kath do a movie with me.
“Because in that scene, it’s really more of Kath and Direk that I’m looking at, huh?”
“I’m waiting for the go signal because I’ll just follow, because since it’s my first take, I’m really the one who has to adjust to this.”
“That’s what I told myself, I can’t impose what should be done, so I’m like, I will do my job, I will do my job, I will play the role of Ethan in that scene and it’s up to Kath and Direk what can and can’t be done.”
ALDEN’S TOPLESS SCENES
Alden admitted that he had to lose weight for the movie, especially after Direk Cathy told him during the look test that he needed to look slimmer for the camera.
Hello, Love, Goodbye‘s trailer showed Alden being topless, which is connected to one of his shocking scenes with Kathryn.
PEP.ph then asked the GMA-7 actor if that was the reason why he was asked to lose weight.
“Yes, actually. The face is really siopao, so really…
“Because I’ve been saying for so long that I’m going to lose weight, that I’m going to improve my body, really only Direk has the right to say at that time that I’m fat and should lose weight.”
Direk Cathy then revealed that Alden was actually hesitant about going topless in some of his scenes.
She said, “But look, there were still a few in those days, right?
“So he really didn’t want to get naked. He said, ‘Direk, it’s embarrassing!’
“I said, ‘I’m not selling your body here!’
“I mean that’s not the point of the scene and he understood. When there are people who don’t like it, right, they’re ashamed because their bodies aren’t beautiful, I don’t need your body to be beautiful and Alden trusted me too, no one laughed at that scene!”
Alden added, “And then maybe something else, to change the look because of course, my look is pretty much the same in the last few projects I’ve done.
“Just to be different, to be truly Hong Kong.”
