“It’s Showtime” host Kim Chiu shared her feelings behind the viral scene she had with her co-star Paulo Avelino in “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.”
In an interview with broadcast-journalist MJ Marfori on Friday, May 17, Kim said that it was nerve-wracking and embarrassing to do such a scene in the series.
“Of course, it was nerve-wracking to do that scene. Plus, I was also kind of embarrassed as a Filipina girl. I was a little embarrassed,” Kim said.
“But I’m just going to say whatever…so we don’t have to do it again. Maybe if we do it again, we’ll be done. Just a joke,” he said, laughing.
The cultural aspect of being a Filipina also played a significant role in her feelings of embarrassment. In Filipino culture, public displays of affection, especially of the more intimate nature, can sometimes carry a sense of modesty or conservatism.
Kim confessed that being raised with these values made it hard for her to fully embrace the scene at first, as it felt out of her usual comfort zone. The fact that the scene was also widely shared and discussed by fans added another layer of pressure.
Despite her initial discomfort, Kim acknowledged the importance of stepping out of her comfort zone as an actress. She recognized that such moments are a natural part of growth and development in her craft.
“I realized that as an actress, I have to be open to trying new things and embracing different roles. It’s all about challenging myself and expanding my range as a performer,” she explained.
Kim also expressed gratitude for her co-star Paulo Avelino, who made the scene more comfortable for her. According to Kim, Paulo was very professional and made sure that she felt supported throughout the filming process.
His reassurance and guidance helped her get through the awkwardness, making the final take much easier to perform.
While the scene may have initially felt embarrassing for Kim, she was proud of the final result. “At the end of the day, we did it, and it turned out great. I’m happy that people appreciated it,” she said.
Kim’s openness about her vulnerability and challenges while filming the scene resonated with many of her fans, who praised her authenticity and dedication to her craft.
Kim’s experience also highlights the broader issue of breaking through boundaries and cultural norms in the entertainment industry.
As an actress in the Philippine showbiz scene, Kim has built a career based on charm, humor, and relatability. But with projects like What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?, she is clearly willing to evolve and take on more diverse roles.
Through this experience, Kim Chiu demonstrated that while vulnerability can be uncomfortable, it is often the key to personal and professional growth in the world of acting.
Anyway, the scene Kim is referring to is the kissing scene between her and Paulo while inside the cabinet, which was really praised and loved by fans.
