ABS-CBN News sat down with Gwen and she shared the story behind her short bob cut.
“It’s been five years. Five long years,” since she sported the short hairstyle.
But she said: “Mahaba po siya nung nag-‘PBB’ ako. Pero before ‘PBB,’ hindi pa ‘ko nagsho-showbiz, si mama gusto talaga short hair ako na may bangs. So marami po talaga akong photos before kahit bata pa ko, may bangs talaga ako at short hair.”
“First time kong magpa-long hair nang sobrang haba nung nasa ‘PBB.’ Kasi ako talaga ang may gusto ng long hair. Umay na ko sa short hair kasi nga si mama, gusto lagi short hair. Sabi ko, ‘Gusto ko nang magpahaba’. Tapos ang tagal kong pinahaba, tapos super short.”
It was management who decided that she should carry that short hair, which made her look distinct from the other members.
“Okay lang naman. Sanay naman din po ako ng ganun,” she said.
Her short hair and slender body stance emphasized her model-like look and aura. Gwen revealed that it has always been her dream to become a model.
“So before, nagmo-modelling na po ako. Pero baguhan lang po ako talaga. Wala pa masyadong experience. Pumasok ako ng ‘PBB,’ 15 (years old). So siguro nag-start ako, late na ko. More on singing ako nung bata ako. Hindi ko nakita ang sarili ko noon na magmo-model ako,” she said.
She started when she was 13, saying she still has a lot of things to learn when it comes to walking down the ramp or posing for photos. “Ilang years pa lang din. Hindi talaga bihasa. (Pero) mas gusto ko siya ngayon,” she said.
“Sa ramp hindi masaydo. Pero sa photoshoots, kasi mas dito mas maraming photoshoots sa mga ganap namin.”
The secret to her modelesque figure? None. Gwen said she does not follow any strict diet plan. In fact, her comfort food is ice cream — matcha and vanilla flavor.
Gwen also revealed that she wants to delve into acting — specifically the drama genre. She looks up to Janella Salvador, who she describes as “very versatile.” She also adores Sarah Geronimo (“ang galing niya ding umarte”) and she loves her movies “Miss Granny” and “Unforgettable”.
As for her long term goals, Gwen wants to have her own business and a make-up line. “Make-up, gusto ko pero hindi ko alam kung saan ako magsisimula, kasi mahilig po ako sa make-up talaga,” she said.
The Bicolana BINI member also said that she’s looking forward to living a simple life in the province.
